Parents & Children Workshops

Resources For Parents & Children

Magic Coat is a simple and effective tool for children from 4 to 11 years of age, although it has been known to benefit children younger and older than the recommended age range. It is a common language that the whole family can use to discuss ways to solve many different problems that children may face.

It is well worth keeping a copy of The Magic Coat book in your household to read to your children on a regular basis, to remind them of how they can get through each day no matter what happens. New resources are being developed continually and added to the merchandise page. The blog by Di Wilcox is a useful parenting resource.

Di Wilcox runs workshops for both parents and children. Some of these are attended by parents and children together, so that they can use the strategies as a family. Others are just for children. Current workshops include the following:

Dealing with friendships & bullying

In this two hour workshop children attend, with their parents, to learn some of the following concepts;

  • The difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships
  • How to manage a conflict in friendship
  • How to manage times on your own
  • The difference between a friendship fight and bullying
  • How to stand up to a bully without being a bully
  • How to build self confidence
  • Children will be introduced to The Magic Coat and taught how the different characters that live inside the pockets can help them in their friendships, on a day to day basis.

Dealing with Anxiety

In this two hour workshop children attend, with their parents, to learn some of the following concepts;

  • What is worry and anxiety
  • How to use a Worry Ladder to help them manage everything that is going on in their mind
  • How to put worries into perspective
  • How to manage panic attacks
  • Children will be introduced to The Magic Coat and taught how the different characters that live inside the pocket can help them with their anxiety, on a day to day basis.

Put on Your Magic Crown

In this two hour workshop that children attend by themselves, they are taught the CROWN acronym - Confidence, Respect, Optimism, Willingness and Nobility. They are taught strategies on:

  • How to live more confidently
  • How to respect themselves and others
  • What it means to be optimistic and how they can be optimistic even in the most difficult situations
  • The benefit of : giving things a go and the rewards that come from stepping outside their comfort zone

Children are given the opportunity to make their own crown and taught that if they wear a crown it means they live nobly. They live each day doing the right thing by themselves and others. They will be shown how The Magic Crown fits inside The Magic Coat so that the two are worn together.

If you would like your child to attend any of the Magic Coat workshops please go to the events calendar. If you would like Di to come and speak to your school or community please get in contact through the contacts page.
